As we are planning our lessons and activities for next week March 23 -25th we wish to remind our Carroll families of the following statement made by Wake County Schools last week pertaining to the Spring Break make-up days: "WCPSS' intent is to provide maximum flexibility under the law and policies to parents, students, and schools, to minimize or eliminate the impact of any absences on scheduled makeup days, recognizing that many families may have travel plans or other conflicts.
· Students absent on makeup days will not suffer any impact on grades or academic credit solely as a result of these absences provided the students make up the missed assignments in a timely manner as established by the school.
· For absences on makeup days, WCPSS will excuse the absences of students as allowed by Board policy and law, including for absences due to a valid educational opportunity such as travel (Form 1710 Request for Excused Absence for Educational Reasons).
· Absences on the identified makeup days of March 23, 24, 25 will not be counted in determining whether high school seniors are exempt from non-State exams."

Parents of 8th grade students. We again have an opportunity to participate in a STEM field trip experience to CISCO in RTP. The trip is this Thursday March 5th. We realize that this is last minute due to weather interruptions but we were not able to re-schedule the event. This was a very successful event that we were invited to attend last year. At this event, students will participate in the TelePresence and NERV Truck Demos, 1 to 1 Speed Mentoring with CISCO employees and Robotics and Circuit Building. CISCO will also be providing lunch. We can only take 100 students. Therefore, the first 100 students who complete their essay topic (given to them before the snow and today time was also allotted during LEAD for completion) and turn it in along with their signed permission slips will be allowed to attend (please see letter, permission slips and agenda coming home today). Please make sure you encourage your child to complete their essays and get the permission slips signed.
