Good afternoon Carroll Cougars! This is your principal, Ms. Keech with this week’s announcements. A copy of this transcript will be shared through the Carroll Yahoo Email Group.
This week we are celebrating Carroll Spirit Week. Today we started off our spirit week with a Pep Rally MC’d by our very own Mr. Snarey recognizing our Fall Sports Teams and our students played against our faculty in volleyball. Our students with Ms. Vinson’s help did well but the staff prevailed (maybe the students will get them in basketball – teachers are old and slow). Today was also Hat’s off For Cancer Day. Tuesday will be Cougar Pride Day, Wednesday is Nerd Day, Thursday is College Team Day and Friday is Dress to Impress Day. Football this week will be a night game (under the lights) at Sanderson High School at 6:00 on Wednesday night. It is also our All Star Book Fair Week, so make sure you take a moment and purchase a few books this week in our Media Center. This week our students will also be participating in CASE 21 assessments. Please refer to the letter sent home with information on our district benchmark assessments. Also our district Magnet Schools Fair is quickly approaching. Make sure you put down Saturday, Nov.3rd in your calendar from 9-12 and come visit the Carroll booth at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. Don’t forget to register to volunteer. After October 31st, you will only be able to come in on Mondays to register. Please remember to check your child’s SPAN account for grades, attendance and discipline. That’s all for now! Goooooooooo Cougars!

Good Afternoon Carroll Cougars! This is your principal Ms. Keech with this week’s announcements. A copy of this transcript will be shared through the Carroll Yahoo Email Group.
We are certainly very busy this month and have a lot going on. I am not able to announce everything in our all-calls so I encourage you to continue to check our Google Calendar located on the front page of our web site for upcoming events. This week we will begin our first quarter CASE 21 Benchmark Assessments in Math, Language Arts, and 8th Grade Science. These assessments will occur from mid-October to mid-November and will be given during your child’s regular class period for Math, Language Arts, and 8th grade Science. These benchmark assessments gauge how our students are progressing through the Common Core curriculum. Please be aware that your child must take these assessments seriously because we will be making decisions on how we can further help students and create an individualized remediation or enrichment plan for each child based on their results. We will also be sharing the individual data for each student with their families. On Thursday, October 18th our 8th graders will be participating in the State required EXPLORE (ACT) test. This will take place during their 1st-3rd periods. This test is designed to help 8th graders explore a broad range of options for their future. It prepares students not only for their high school course work but for their post –high school choices as well. EXPLORE contains four curriculum-based assessments: English, Mathematics, Reading and Science. Additionally, EXPLORE includes a career exploration component that stimulates students’ thinking about future plans and relates personal characteristics to career options. Please don’t forget to continue to donate to the PTA No-fuss Fund-raiser. This week is” Friends and Family “week in which a drawing will be made for a catered sub sandwich lunch in the courtyard for a student and 5 friends. Your child will be coming home with a notice that we are planning to conduct a lock-down drill soon. Please review the letter with your child. Also, don’t forget that next week begins our Spirit Week. Kicking off Spirit Week will be Hats off for Cancer Day and a pep rally on Monday, Oct. 22nd. For more information about our Spirit week please go to our web site. Parents please continue to monitor your child’s adherence to the dress code policy. We especially wish to remind young ladies to not to wear bandanas to school. We will be making an announcement in school tomorrow as a reinforcement of this policy. Please continue to check your child’s SPAN account for grades, attendance and discipline. That’s all for now. Goooooooooo Cougars! |
