This is a reminder for all of our Cougar carpoolers. We have reminded everyone numerous times about our carpool procedures and safety requirements. We continue to plead for you to follow those procedures. The procedures were put in place for your child's safety and the efficient movement of our carpool. The procedures were not designed to inconvenience you. Please help us keep your children safe and our carpool moving and thereby avoiding accidents, citations for tresspassing (the bank) and injury to your child or someone else's. Please follow the directions of the staff trying to assist you and your child through carpool, do not park on Rowan or the bank and please do not allow your child to jaywalk and thereby violating raleigh city traffic laws. If you are not sure what to do in carpool or where to go, we have provided a complete plan for you to refer to on our website under the carpool tab. If you are unable to access our website, we have hard copies in our offices that we can send home with your child at your request.
If you are looking for something other than turkey and do not wish to cook one more night this week, PTA will be having a Dine out night at Milton's tomorrow, Nov. 26th from 5-10. 100% of the profit is donated to Carroll.
Carroll Families do not forget that we have a short week this week due to the Thanksgiving holidays. School will not be in session Wed, THurs and Friday of this week. We hope that everyone will have a nice and restful holiday and look forward to everyone's return on Monday, December the 2nd.

This morning we conducted a Emergency Lockdown Drill. This drill was done in partnership with Wake County Public Schools Security staff, Wake County Sheriff's office and our site school administration staff. We conduct these drills periodically to make sure that all students and staff are knowledgeable of emergency procedures in case an emergency ever arises. We want to thank all students and staff for participating and to let all know that the drill was completed with minimal issues.
If you have any questions or concerns about today's drill and our drill procedures please contact your child's counselor.

In the spring of 2013, your student took new tests based on the new, more rigorous standard under the Common Core State Standards and N.C. Essential Standards. The scores from this test were release by the state last Thursday. Individual student scores will be coming within the next few weeks. The new tests tell us how well students are learning under the new standards. With the new standards, students are being asked to learn more, and at earlier ages. Typically, when new tests are introduced and standards for learning are raised, a change in scores is expected. It is important to note that a change in scores does not necessarily reflect a change in students'academic progress. Students continued to grow academically in 2012-13. These new scores simply mean that we are expecting students to reach higher levels of learning than ever before. We strongly believe the new standards will better prepare our students to be successful when they graduate from high school. We will continue to work toward these new, higher standards that the state has set for our students. Scores have increased steadily over time in Wake County public schools on virtually every test that the state has developed. We will continue working hard to ensure that these new tests will be no exception. For more information about these new tests, including links to the district’s results and tips to talk to
your student about the test scores, visit www.wcpss.net/parents/new-scores
Carroll Families, we were finally able to make student adjustments to our 30 minute LEAD elective last week. As you are aware we created a new course this year called LEAD in which students are being taught the Covey principles for leadership. Our intent from the beginning of school was for the classes to be more thematic/focused electives (Math Leaders, Reading Leaders, Leaders in Science, Leaders in College Prep,Service leaders and etc.) however, due to Powerschool challenges we were not able to do that until after the first quarter. Students were selected to participate in the Math Leaders and Reading Leaders courses based upon their past EOG and CASE 21 scores and if they were not receiving any extra assistance throughout the rest of their day. The students selected for the Math and Reading leaders course will continue to get course curriculum to develop as leaders in math and reading and extra assistance in those areas to help their performance on state standardized tests and in their classes. Students were selected for the Leaders in College prep because they may be the first in their families to go to college or because they were identified by counseling or staff as someone who would benefit from the course. Students selected for the other elective courses were chosen at random. Please note that all opportunities are not finite and if you would like your child to take something else, please let their counselor know.
