Carroll Leadership in Technology Magnet Middle School |
Good morning Carroll Cougar Leaders. This is your principal Ms. Keech with an important message.
This morning we conducted a modified lockdown drill in order to complete a sweep of our building using the canine drug unit from the Wake County Sheriff's department. This sweep included the dogs going into randomly selected classrooms. Students in those randomly selected classes were asked to stand outside the classroom while the dogs completed a sweep of the classroom. The Canine Unit also completed a sweep of the lockers as well. As principal I have made it a part of my mission to maintain a safe and drug free environment. And while we may have an occasional incident, I am proud to report that nothing was found today. For the most part 99% of our students do a good job making good decisions and keeping their focus on academics and learning. However, it is important for our students and community to understand that we will take the necessary legal steps to maintain a safe and drug free learning environment for all. Thank you for your understanding.

This Friday , March 28th is a snow make-up day and Spring Break will be next week. There will not be school next week. Please remember that the time after spring break goes very quickly as we will be getting prepared for EOGs and the end of the year. This is the time that we really have to remind our students that school rules and expectations for behavior has not changed. We still expect our students to abide by the dress code (shorts and skirts must meet finger tips, tights, jeggins, or excessively tight wear are not allowed and boys pants must be up around their waste and not sagging) and tardies are subject to our tardy sweep and consequences. This is also the time for our students to buckle down in their classes (if they haven't already) so that they are not facing district retention guidelines. We do not wish for any of our students to be retained however, if they are not completing their work and doing their best in all of their classes, they could be facing retention (failing their grade). Please encourage your child to continue to make good choices. And speaking of EOGs, we are in need for parent volunteers to come and assist us with our State's testing program in late May early June. If you haven't already, please sign up in our volunteer registration system to be a volunteer and to help us with testing. The volunteer system is open only on Monday's for registration from 8:00am-3:00pm. Please continue to check our website for our daily announcements and our google calendar for upcoming events and activities. That's all for now! Gooooooo Cougars! Well our week definitely started off interesting which is why our announcements are a little late this week. Today many of our band students traveled to Ligon to participate in the NC State Festival competition. They returned telling us how well they did. We are very proud of them and their representation of Carroll. Tomorrow some of our students will be traveling to Southeast Raleigh to participate in the First in Fitness Competition. We know that they will do well and look forward to hearing about their great day upon their return. Parents of rising 9th graders, next week's deadline for registering for high school courses is fast approaching. Please review with your child the packet of registration materials, which includes teacher recommendations and course selections for 9th grade, sign all forms, and have your child return the packet to his or her science teacher by this Friday, March 21st. Please be advised that if you do not turn these in - you may not like what gets selected for you. We are also very excited to share with our parents a couple of new events/items. Two weeks ago, several of our students were selected to be morning announcement leaders. These students will be doing the morning announcements for the rest of the year. These announcements are now also published daily on the front page of our website. We have also developed a new twitter site. Please follow us @Carroll LT Magnet. We will do our best to send out frequent updates and information. And as always, please make sure that you continue to check our Google Calendar for any events and activities. That's all for now! Remember that this Friday (Mar. 7th) is no longer an early release day. It is a full day due to snow make ups. This Thursday (Mar.6th) is our "High School on the Horizon" night from 5:30-6:30. This is a re-scheduled event . This meeting is for 8th grade parents and will provide valuable information about high school and graduation requirements. We will also have a guest presenter Rona Drummer who will be providing information pertaining to College. Cougar families we have put together an exciting partnership with an organization called Uhuru Child- Schools Helping Schools. This is a one and half week program designed to partner schools in the United States with schools in the developing world. This program provides the following: increasing awareness, meeting Kenyan students via video chat and raising funds for education both locally and internationally. Your children will be bringing more information home starting this Thursday. You can also attend our PTA meeting Thursday night at 6:30 to receive more information. That's all for now!
