We wish for you to know that our hearts go out to the families and the community involved in the tragic incident in Conn.In light of that event we want to assure you that the safety and welfare of our students is our number one priority. We have a comprehensive district-wide Emergency Operations plan to ensure schools, security, local law enforcement, emergency personnel and central office all work together quickly and efficiently to handle any emergency situation. We have our own emergency response plan following district guidelines. Every teacher, student and staff member knows their specific roles and rehearse through drill at least once a year .Our school lockdown procedures go immediately into affect when a safety concern arises at campus. You may recall , at Carroll we have already conducted a Lockdown drill in October and are planning on doing another one soon.We continually review our emergency plans, work closely with law enforcement and emergency responders, and update plans as needed to increase effectiveness. A Raleigh police department officer was actually here this morning walking our campus to familiarize himself with the layout. If you have any further questions or concerns, please go to the link found on our district website or contact me at [email protected] This is our last week in school prior to Winter break. We will also be having an early release on Friday for teacher professional development.Even though our students may be getting really excited in preparation for the break, please remind them that we are continuing to work and learn each day and school rules still apply. Please also remember to not come to our office and ask for us to sign your child out early after 2:00pm.We are extremely busy at that time getting ready for bus dismissal and are unable to accommodate your request and retrieve your child. Many thanks to our wonderful PTA for an excellent Flapjack Fundraiser this past Saturday. We all had a wonderful time listening to music and eating some great pancakes! Hope you all have a wonderful winter break and we look forward to your return on January 2nd. That’s all for now. Gooooooo Cougars!

Parents, students are not to be on campus prior to 7:00 am. We do not have supervision prior to 7:00 in the morning and the safety of your child is at risk. Carpool parents, please follow our carpool procedures. The rules and procedures have been put into place for the safety of our students and drivers. If you are parking on the street (Rowan or Six Forks) or at the banks across the street from us and allowing your child to get out of the car, you are not only violating our rules and procedures for carpool drop-off and pick-up safety, you are also violating the city of Raleigh’s traffic safety laws and are subject to Police Department consequences. Please help us help keep your children safe and follow the rules and procedures put into place. “Are you heading to the store to purchase gift cards this holiday season? Why not get them right here at Carroll Middle School and give a % back to your school PTA at the same time?” The PTA is sending home a “no fuss” form today (Monday). Please check your child’s bookbag to support the Carroll PTA. Gift ideas include spirit wear, and script gift cards. Give to friends, family and teachers too”. We will be having our Student Council Winter Dance this Friday, Dec. 7th. The dance will begin at 2:30 and will end at 5:00. Students must have good attendance, no ISS or OSS in order to attend. Permission slips will be coming home this week and must be signed before being allowed to attend. Tickets will be pre-sold on Thursday and Friday of this week. Please make sure that you pick your child up at 5:00 pm or they will be subject to not being allowed to come to the next dance. Carroll’s first basketball game will be held today at Daniels. Please join me in wishing all of our student athletes good luck today. Carroll’s first concerts of the season will be held this Tuesday, Dec. 4th for 7th and 8th grade and Thursday, Dec. 6th for 6th grade. We hope that you all will be able to attend and show support for our music program. Please continue to monitor your child’s SPAN account for attendance, grades and discipline. Please also remember that all of our students were given SPAN access at the beginning of the year and can monitor their own grades. If you or your child does not have access to a computer at home, they may use our computer lab each morning before school from 7:00-7:30. That’s all for now. Gooooooo Cougars! |
