Good Afternoon Carroll Cougar Leaders! This is your principal Ms. Keech with this week's announcements. A copy of this transcript will be shared through the Carroll Yahoo Email group and will be posted in Keech's Corner on our Carroll web site.
Parents please review our dress code policy (located in your students' agendas and in the packet mailed home to you this summer) with your child. We are still having some challenges with students wearing clothing that is either excessively tight and skirts or shorts not meeting the finger-tip rule. We have begun our tardy sweeps and unfortunately have been sweeping some of our students who are not making it to class on time. Please remind your child the importance of getting to class on time each and every day. It is also very important for you to set an example for your child by getting them to school on time each and every morning. Picture Day is this Thursday Oct. 3rd. Your child should have already brought home their purchase package (last week). If you have not received it please communicate with our front office. Carroll families tomorrow marks the start of Carroll's Annual Fall No-Fuss Fundraiser. Your child should have a letter coming home by tomorrow about this fundraiser. This fundraiser is extremely important this year as we need funds to purchase laptops for your children for their use. Also don't forget to order your State Fair tickets on line because Carroll will get money back for each order. Calling all volunteers! If you were approved for the 2012-2013 school year, you must reactivate as a volunteer no later than 4:00pm on October 31, 2013. After that date, all volunteer registration (returning or new) will only take place on Mondays. Please make sure that you continue to check our google calendar on our website for any upcoming events, club meetings and athletics. That's all for now! Gooooooooo Cougars!

Today your children began block scheduling. On the whole it was successful. We did have a few errors but have already fixed those and will give your children the corrected schedules tomorrow to begin on Wednesday's A-day. They will continue to follow the schedule that they received today for tomorrow's classes. We have also downloaded a video on our website that will help you understand and read your child's schedule. Thank you for your patience as we go through this needed transformation. Parents of all incoming 6 th grade students are required to get the Tdap Booster by September 27th. Cougar leader families, don't forget that tomorrow night is our "Meet The Teacher-Walk the Schedule" event. We will begin our evening with dinner on the lawn (which is an optional fundraiser event in which your can mingle with teachers and other Carroll family members) from 5-6, followed by a short PTA meeting from 6-6:30. Our "Meet The Teacher-Walk The Schedule" event will begin at 6:30 in your child's first period class. You will be given your child's schedule in the first period class and then proceed through their schedule with bell prompts. Each session will last approximately 8 minutes. This is not the time for teacher conferences, however information on how to schedule a conference with your child's teacher will be provided at this event. We will also have a lab set up in our hallway and the media center for anyone who would like to register to volunteer. And, speaking of volunteers...we will be conducting a Volunteer Orientation next Tuesday night , Sept. 17th in our media center from 6:00-6:30. Please see the flyer posted on our website for further details pertaining to this event. As I announced on Monday, we were planning on starting your childs block schedule this Thursday. Upon reviewing with our teachers and parents, we have decided to delay the block schedule start till next Monday, Sept. 16th. It was the consensus that it would be better to start at the beginning of the week versus at the end. It also gives us more time to make sure that all of our student schedules are error free. Please contact your child's counselor if you have any questions or concerns pertaining to your child's schedule. That's all for now! Goooooo Cougars! Good afternoon Carroll Cougars! Block scheduling - Currently we are planning for your child's first day of block schedule beginning on Thursday of this week. Their LEAD teachers will hand out their block schedule to them during LEAD time on Wed and answering any questions about the process. Parent Portal HOME BASE PARENT INFORMATION Home Base is a statewide student information system that has replaced NC WISE and SPAN starting in the 2013-14 school year. Home Base gives parents and students access to real-time information including attendance, grades and assignments. With Home Base, powered by Pearson's PowerSchool application, everyone stays connected: Students stay on top of assignments, parents are able to participate in their child's progress, and teachers can instantly share information from their gradebook with parents and students. Families with multiple students can also set up their accounts to view all of their students at one time, with one login. Why can't I access my SPAN account? SPAN was linked to our old student information system (NCWISE). In July, the state of North Carolina moved to a new student information system called PowerSchool. When will I Get access? Home Base will be available starting Sept. 16th. Information about availability will be made through the Principal's Friday Phone message. Forms and Instructions Get a parent portal account Each parent or guardian will have one account. If you have more than one child enrolled at WCPSS, you will receive an access ID for each child, which you add to your single account. If you had an active SPAN account and your child is attending the same school s/he attended last year, you will automatically receive access information from your child's school to create your Home Base Parent Portal once it opens. If your child is attending a different school this year (this includes students moving from 8th grade to 9th grade), then you will need to complete one of the following access forms: Support For help, download the Parent Portal User Guide or view the technical support available in the Home Base application. If you have questions about the data in Home Base, please contact your child's teacher. Dinner on the Lawn -Is this Thursday from 5-6. (There is still time to get your forms in. So fill those forms out and turn them in tomorrow to your child's lead teacher.) Immediately following will be a brief pTA meeting and parents will then be dismissed at 6:30 for our "Meet The Teacher" event. At the "Meet The Teacher" event parents will be walking their child's "C-day"- Friday schedule. Please have your child write down their first period teacher for you so that when you go, you can get a copy of their schedule. Dress Code - Please review the dress code with your child. It is in their Agenda as well as was included in the parent packet that went home this summer. Some things that we are still seeing are shorts not meeting the fingertips and flip-flops/slides. Please make sure that your child is appropriately dressed before coming to school each day. Calendar events-Remember to continue to check our Google calendar for upcoming events, sports and activities. Questions for counselors - Also, remember if you are new to middle school or just don't understand something, please contact our counselors with any questions . They are here to serve our families. That's all for now! Goooo Cougars! |
